🏉 From Classroom to Rugby Stardom: Laurian Johannes-Haupt 🙋🏻‍♀️Makes History📚

Saturday, January 11, 2025

🌟 Laurian Johannes-Haupt has officially traded her teaching role for a groundbreaking position in rugby history! As SA Rugby’s first full-time female national team coach, Johannes-Haupt will now dedicate herself entirely to her role as Springbok Women’s assistant coach, specializing in forwards and scrums.

With 12 international caps and an appearance in the 2010 Rugby World Cup, Johannes-Haupt is no stranger to making waves on the rugby field. She coached the Junior Springbok Women to success, twice led DHL Western Province to Women’s Premier Division glory, and is a graduate of the prestigious World Rugby and Gallagher Coaching Internship Programme.

“This was the right time to step away from teaching and focus fully on rugby,” Johannes-Haupt said. “The Springbok Women are showing incredible growth, and with the team preparing for the 2025 Rugby World Cup, I believe we’re ready to reach new heights!”

Her appointment reflects SA Rugby’s dedication to empowering women in the sport. “With more than 50% female representation in Springbok Women’s management, Laurian’s full-time role highlights our commitment to growth and inclusivity,” said Dave Wessels, SA Rugby’s General Manager for High Performance.

As preparations ramp up, the Springbok Women will gather in Stellenbosch this week for their first camp of the year. Under the guidance of Johannes-Haupt and the coaching team, the squad will build on their momentum and aim to deliver performances that inspire South Africans everywhere.

This isn’t just a win for women’s rugby—it’s a defining moment for the sport! 🙌
